Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro Black LED Pen Flashlight with HolsterCustomer Review: Great light and higly recommended Summary: 5 Stars
The Streamlight Stylus Pro is a pen sized yet powerful LED flashlight which utilizes two triple AAA batteries that is durable, sleek and provides great utility in a pen sized package. You will not be disappointed with this light especially for the price.
Following is my breakdown:
Light
The LED light is extremely bright for such a small unit. The beam is a solid very white and bright light that provides good coverage for a small area. It is much brighter than a 2 D cell Maglite. It will work great in your home, vehicle or office. Outdoors it works great but is not designed for long ranges. It functions very good for short distance illumination.
Tail Switch
The tail switch has great functionality that can be used for momentary on or press all the way to click on for constant use. It is a little challenging to click on with your thumb but it is doable. It is easier to turn on with an index finger.
Clip
The clip is strong and appears to be very durable. The clip will rotate on the body when changing the battery which may cause the body to become slightly scratched. Not a big deal unless you want your flashlight to look pretty. The light is extremely light and is hardly noticeable in regards to weight.
Body
The body is very strong and durable with a great black finish. Although small, this light will be able to take abuse and still function flawlessly.
Uses
First, be clear that this light is not designed to replace the sun and it is not a tactical light. It is what it is...a great, durable, pen sized, bright illumination tool.
1. This is a great light to be utilized in a small area such as in an urban or camping environment. It will easily and comfortably fit in your pants or shirt pocket.
2. It is a great backup light for an EDC kit (remember to carry spare batteries). If space is a consideration in your EDC bag then this light is perfect. You can utilize the clip to attach to Molle or PALS attachments which can be very handy.
3. It will also work well in a medical kit but do not use this light to check pupilary reaction as the light is too bright for this purpose.
4. While this light is not designed as a tactical light it will function in this capacity if it is your LAST resort. It will momentarily blind an assailant long enough for you to either employ other tactical measures or get out of the environment. It probably could be used as a small impact weapon but I would not expect too much of a result with this type of use.
5. It will work, again as a LAST resort, as a shooting light but it will be challenging to engage the tail switch for some people. If it is all you have then make do...adapt, overcome and prevail.
Overall, I highly recommend this light.
Customer Review: Excellent Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I've only owned the pen light for a couple of days now, but so far I love it!
I've gotten used to carrying a small LED flashlight around with me. It's amazing how often a flashlight comes in handy (looking for something on the floor of a movie theater, on the floor of your car, etc...). It's just a great tool to have. LED light is so bright and clear, it really helps you see more than traditional lights. It's such a step up from the old yellow flashlights of our past. I bought two small'ish high quality Leatherman flashlights at Costco for $25-$30 each. I also bought two not-so-high quality flashlights at Sam's Club for $28 (package of two). I'd either keep one in my car or take it with me when I go wherever I went. Therein lies the problem.
Carrying a flashlight, especially a well-made one (i.e. heavier), is a pain. It's very difficult if you're just relying on your pockets & hands. It's easier if you carry a backpack or a man bag, but that's not always practical. Anyway, a flashlight was always just another thing I had to carry (iPod, Flip video, cell phone, wallet, keys) wherever I went. Living in the Midwest, we have very cold winters and very hot/humid summers. I'm not a fan of leaving electronics in freezing or sweltering vehicles, so I always have to truck everything around with me.
Well, thanks to this pen light, I have one fewer thing to carry. Sure, it still has to go with me, but I hardly know it's there! Obviously it's the size of a pen, so it's very small. It's also very lightweight. The light is extremely bright, much more than I'd expect from a product this size. Just stick it in your pocket and go. It feels like it's very high quality, and will hold up with more than a few drops (not that I'd recommend dropping it, but it happens).
Be careful with the holster. It comes very tight and will grip onto anything. At the movies this weekend, I ended up using the light for something, and then attached the holster to the leg of my shorts. When I stood up (and the light stayed firmly in place), I decided to pull it off my shorts leg. I wasn't thinking. Make sure you gently slide it off whatever it's clipped onto. I ended up pulling it out more than sliding it down, and it bent the holster out a bit. Now it's not as tight as it was when it came, and will no longer grip onto just anything.
Customer Review: I own more than 22 flash light b4 this one... Summary: 5 Stars
I own 22 flash lights of different sizes and brands in addition to this one, the most expensive being $85.00. The Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro beats them all (not the $85 one in terms of brightness, but in durability and battery life, yes). I read some of the two stars and one star reviews and while everyone have different experiences and preferences, this flashlight, as of December 2010, is by not means "cheap". It is solid; has a solid feel and is solidly built--the best in its size and price range as well as some more $$$ ones, surpassing them in both quality and brightness. I have carried the 66118 everywhere, almost everyday for the last few years and it has not failed me in any weather condition or when I needed light. It's the perfect size for small and big hands, female or male. It has a good weight to it, which comes in handy at times. The matted coat body gets scuff, but wipe it with a little water or mildly wet sponge and it'll clean back up. It seems to resist light scratches and it hides wear and tear marks better than the high gloss, shiny, barrels. Now I am not vain about my flashlights but you can't help but endear yourself to something that has been so reliable. So I bought two more, making my collection to 25. A review mention exploding batteries--that's not the flash light's fault--I think certain things should be made in the United States and things related to energy and food are such things--back to my review. The two light settings mentioned below help save battery power. There are two settings to this light. The video by Nutnfancy says it all, but here's my one cent to his:
You have to push a little further down on the cap switch until you hear or feel a click for instant stream of light, or press lightly for intermitten light flash--especially useful when sending Morse code or signaling someone distance away.
Recap TWO light settings:
1) depress until you heard or feel a click for constant light stream and
2) press and release lightly before the click for intermitten flash of light
Customer Review: I use a lot of flashlights... Summary: 5 Stars
In my line of work I use and have used a lot of flashlights over the years. I currently own 5 Streamlights, including 2 of this model. While it may seem I am partial to this brand, I continue to buy them, not due to brand loyalty but because they continue to fit my needs. In fact, after recently purchasing this Stylus Pro for work, I liked it so much I got another for home. I've only had them a couple weeks and already love them. Here is my list of Pros and Cons:
Pros:
1. Matte finish. Looks great but more importantly adds an extra level of grip, unlike some of the smaller Mag-Lites I've used.
2. Pocket retainer. The clip that hold this in your pocket is the perfect tension. I've used pens and lights that were either too tight or too loose and you end up having a light that either falls out of your pocket or you can't get out, especially with gloved hands.
3. Bright beam. Very good beam, especially considering it runs on AAA batteries.
4. It runs on AAA batteries. We get these free at work so that is a BIG plus. No more looking for and paying high prices for those little watch batteries.
5. Build quality. Feels very solid and well built.
Cons:
1. Switch at back COULD have long term issues. It works perfect now but based on other similar devices I could possibly see the rubber button wearing out.
2. Ummm, yeah. Still looking for another con.
Needless to say, I am VERY satisifed with this light and WILL be purchasing more for my vehicles. If you are looking for a pen-style light with excellent brightness, solid construction, and one that runs on inexpensive batteries, look no further. You will love this flashlight.

Customer Review: Small package, big surprise! Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this item if you're looking for a penlight with the power of a much bigger flashlight. This flashlight is about the size of a thick pen and fits nicely in your shirt pocket. The light this little bad boy puts out is impressive.
Before buying, I was concerned that the light output would be insufficient for my needs. I work nights on a shipping dock and frequently have to look into pitch black trailers(53ft). I had been previously been using a mini mag lite that I converted with an led kit. I rarely have more than one hand free at any time so I was looking for something that I could conveniently pull out of a shirt pocket.
Did my research, found this item highly recommended and made the jump figuring I would return it if things didn't work out. Well let me tell you, this little flashlight is brighter than the maglite I was using. It gives me an intense focused beam at over 50ft away. I've tested it at home and it does better than bigger led flashlights that I purchased at [...].
Overall, I'm thoroughly satisfied. It's well built; the click switch on the tip of the flaslight is heavy duty. You can spot press it or fully press and keep the light fully on. At first its almost too hard to press It in completely but that's because u kind of have to get used to pressing it. It's safe to say that this light will never accidently get turned on. And as for the light it puts out, I'd like to see another penlight beat it! If you're a doctor and you're thinking of using this for checking throats and eyes, don't! It's too bright; use the smaller version. Hope this helps, good luck!
