Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 78014 Ultra Stinger Xenon Rechargeable Flashlight with Charger, Anodized BlackCustomer Review: Awesome Flashlight Summary: 5 Stars
This is the brightest flashlight I have ever owned. Much brighter and lighter than any mag light.
Customer Review: Better than good Summary: 5 Stars
Just great, don't knw how I did without it. A buddy saw it work and bought on online that night.
Customer Review: streamlight versus AE hid (high intensity discharge) Powerlight Summary: 4 Stars
I am a home inspector. I started about 20 years ago with a magnalite rechargeable flashlight (reliable, heavy, not very bright, but it still works). I progressed to an Ultrastinger (very bright, lightweight, but not as bright as a Surefire 10 x Dominator). However, I have had to replace the bulbs in the Dominator about 6 times - 30 bucks a bulb. Now I am having problems with the Dominator's charging unit. Surefire say they will fix it under their lifetime warranty. I have recently purchased a 24 watt AE Powerlight HID (high intensity discharge) flashlight. This is a big, heavy, durable, well made flashlight, that, so far, has been performing well. It takes about 10 seconds to reach maximum brightness (if it is fully charged, it sometimes takes several turns of the on/off ring to ignite the bulb (think electric arc welder). This is the brightest flashlight I have ever seen (10x Dominator is about 500 lumens, Powerlight is about 1300 lumens, Streamlight is about 350 lumens). If you shine these lights on a white wall, the Powerlight overwhelms the other two flashlights with a blinding blue-white light. Customer Review: Great, but not for law enforcement Summary: 4 Stars
As the other reviews attest, this is a great little light. Well made, light and extremely bright.
However, if you're in law enforcement stick with the SL20 series (the original SL20 or the new SL20X).
The charging contact point is situtaed exactly opposite of the recessed on/off switch. This is on the "cone" of the light and is also where you'll probably hold the light when it's in use.
If you're a police officer reaching for this light while keeping your eyes on a situation, you'll waste a few seconds trying to figure out if you're pressing the charging contact or the switch.
It doesn't take long to realize you're trying to press the charging contact, but in that time, you'll feel the charger contact, realize the mistake and rotate the light 180 degrees, probably with your other hand. This will cost you a couple of seconds and when it counts, you want to be watching the situation, not messing around with your flashlight.
I retired from law enforcement years ago, and if I was on the street again I'd still carry my 25 year old SL20 but keep this as a backup.
If those few seconds don't matter, this is the perfect flashlight.
Customer Review: Great light, but does not come as advertised Summary: 4 Stars
Great light, but does not come as advertised
Great, solid flashlight which should last for years, assuming the bulb last that long. The amount of light produced is amazing.
Amazon sells this unit "Rechargeable 6-volt Ni-Cad 5 cell sub-C battery, 2-1/2 hour fast charger and fast charge cord included", where in reality, it comes with a standard 10 hour charger for the home, and a standard 10 hour charger for the car (no fast charger included). Contacted Amazon, and they believe a packing mistake. They request I ship back, and I ask for a replacement unit once Amazon receives the unit, which is very much a hassle, and adds a chance of shipment problems, not to say a month without the light.
I firmly believe that the two 10 hour chargers (home and car) are the standard, so I would receive back exactly what I shipped back to Amazon. [...] list the Ultra Stinger with a 10 hour charger, and list the Fast Charger as an available option (not standard). Just like a replacement bulb or battery, a fast charger would have to be ordered direct from Streamlight or retailer.
